Soothing Pain

Julia here.  Personal sharing ahead (you've been warned!).  :)

As a woman who is also an Multiple Sclerosis Fighter, I am no stranger to pain.  Medication helps, but often the muscle spasms / tightness win that war and I'm left uncomfortable and sleep deprived.

With MS, there is a sensation that some ironic individual named an "MS hug." It is basically constriction around your side or middle that feels a little different for everyone who experiences it.  Some folks think they are having a heart attack the first time it happens to put the pain in perspective. For me, it feels like someone with a incredibly large hand is squeezing my side and not letting go.  It can vary from mildly uncomfortable to horrifically painful.

The other morning I woke up with a jolt as I was hit by an MS hug. Even after it lessened slightly, the echo stayed and my remaining muscles were tight enough that sleep alluded me.

Wayne got up early for work and was kind enough to warm up a neck wrap for me.  We were able to drape it just right across my side and the heat was wonderfully soothing.  After laying very still and allowing the heat to seep in, I finally managed to fall back asleep.

Will a lavender neck wrap cure me?  Absolutely not.  But, it provides a tiny bit of relief when I need it.  I share this personal story in hopes that others may find some small amount of relief as well. ❤️
